Evanston to Sound Emergency Sirens Tonight if Cubs Win World Series
Alert system will be heard throughout the city tonight if the Cubs can win in Cleveland.

EVANSTON, IL - The city of Evanston will activate its local alert system by sounding its emergency sirens if the Chicago Cubs win the World Series tonight.
The sirens will be heard throughout the city if the Cubs defeat the Cleveland Indians in Game 7 of the World Series and claim their first championship since 1908, according to multiple reports.
"When the Chicago Cubs win, it will be a special moment for all residents of Evanston," Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl told DNAinfo.com Chicago. "I believe it is appropriate for this once-in-a-lifetime event — well maybe more than once, who knows — to celebrate by sounding the city's alert sirens at the conclusion of the final winning game."

It may be the first time the sirens go off in Evanston due to a result of a sporting event, but the city of Chicago has pulled it off at least once before. In 1959, when the Chicago White Sox clinched the American League Pennant (which was also in Cleveland that night), then Mayor Richard J. Daley, a huge White Sox fan, instructed other city officials to activate their alert system.
Of course the 1959 siren ringing brought out somewhat widespread panic in Chicago as the nation was in the middle of the Cold War and some feared the sirens were rung because of an attack from the Soviet Union.
