Evanston Strengthens Sanctuary City Ordinance
City law will now prohibit police from asking about immigration status and working with the government on deportations.

EVANSTON, IL - The ‘Welcoming City Ordinance’ adopted by the City of Evanston in 2008 that made it a sanctuary city was strengthened this week with new wording.
The resolution now forbids police and any other city employee from asking about immigration status, according to a WBEZ report.
It also forbids those officials from reporting undocumented immigrants to the federal government.

In essence, continuing a streak of more than ten years in which the city has refused to help the federal government deport an illegal immigrant.
Aldermen voted to upgrade the wording of the measure unanimous, with some expressing sadness behind the reason it needs updating.
