Press release from Evanston Voters Initiative:

Evanston, Illinois, March 15, 2021: Evanston Voter Initiative invites all candidates in the April 6, 2021 election to participate in a forum featuring former Governor Pat Quinn, to discuss the power of voter initiatives, and envision the possibilities for Evanston. The forum will be held on Monday, March 15, 2021 at 7pm, over zoom. During the forum, former Governor Pat Quinn and members of EVI will review the history of the Evanston Voter Initiative, and discuss the vision for what progressive and positive changes ballot initiatives could bring to Evanston, such as stronger ethics standards, environmental protection, consumer protection, public safety, and affordable housing.

EVI has provided information about ballot initiatives ahead of time for candidates to review (attached), and will have a time for candidates to ask questions and make statements, as well as ask questions and take audience questions, and make statements at the end.

The forum will be live streamed over Facebook on the EVI page, and will be recorded for future viewing.

Evanston Voter Initiative is an exciting way for Evanston residents to enact local ordinances, through the power of voter petition and referendum. The Evanston City Council has the power to put referenda on the ballot, which could make Evanston Voter Initiative a reality after the thwarted attempt to get it on the ballot by petition in 2019.
