Families Displaced, Firefighter Injured During House Fire in Evanston

EVANSTON, IL - A two-story brick townhouse with two additional units attached caught fire Monday afternoon, displacing three families and causing a minor injury to one of the firefighters who battled the blaze.

Several fire companies responded to the 800 block of Sherman Avenue around 3:20 p.m. to find heavy smoke coming from a first floor window. The heavy smoke spread to other parts of the building, causing the fire to be upgraded to a Code 4.

Crews took about an hour to get the fire under control.

The injured firefighter was hospitalized, treated and released.

The Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced families.
