Pedestrian Killed In Crash At Howard And Ridge

A man died after being hit by a car Wednesday morning on Howard Street, police said.

EVANSTON, IL — Police are investigating at the scene of a fatal traffic crash on Howard Street Wednesday morning.

A 27-year old Chicago man walking in the street was hit by a car around 7 a.m. near the intersection with Ridge Avenue, according to police.

The vehicle was still on the scene when officers arrived. Paramedics took the man to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Howard Street from Ridge to Elmwood avenues was closed for several hours for the investigation. Buses were rerouted in the area until about 10:15 a.m., according to police.

The area's major crash assistance team and major crimes task force has been activated and the incident is under investigation, police said.

The man's identity is being withheld pending the notification of his family, according to a spokesperson for the Cook County medical examiner's office.
