Fleetwood-Jourdain Art Guild Gallery Opens Sunday

Grand opening is Sunday at Morton Civic Center.

Evanston community members are invited to celebrate the grand opening of the Fleetwood-Jourdain Art Guild Gallery on Sunday, June 21, 2 p.m., on the second floor of the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.

Selections of the Art Guild collection were recently housed in Room 2200 of the Morton Civic Center, which was designated as the Fleetwood-Jourdain Art Guild Meeting Room by the Evanston City Council in 2012.

The Fleetwood-Jourdain Art Guild was established by the Fleetwood-Jourdain Advisory Board’s standing committee for the arts in 1987, with a commitment to celebrate and preserve the history of Black Evanston through the arts. Since then, the Art Guild has gifted the Evanston community with a collection of 32 pieces of artwork by local and regional artists, as well as sponsored music and dance performances.

Other pieces in the collection are on display in the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, located at 1655 Foster St.
