Fundraiser Planned to Help City Buy New Bus to Transport Elderly
The Levy Senior Center Foundation plans "Get On The Bus!" for September 19.
A fundraiser aimed at raising money to purchase a new bus that will transport older adults to events, shopping trips and special senior-focused excursions is planned for September 19 at the Levy Senior Center - one of only 200 accredited senior centers nationally.
The Levy Senior Center Foundation is planning the event, called “Get On the Bus!,” from 5-8 p.m. and will feature family-oriented entertainment including a band and dancing, silent auction, themed mini-golf, wine, special guests, food trucks and games.
“Our current bus is more than 15 years old and is in great need of replacement,” said Judy Newton, event chairperson and Foundation board member. “We are thrilled that The City of Evanston has agreed to match.”

The goal is to raise $30,000, half the cost of a 22-passenger seat new bus that would be used to serve older adults in Evanston. The city of Evanston plans to match funds, dollar-for-dollar.

The event is being held in honor and remembrance of Dennis Newton, a longtime Evanston resident and supporter of the Levy Center.
Tickets are $50 and can be ordered in advance at Fund Raiser or at the door.
“The Levy Center is well-known throughout Evanston, yet the Foundation that helps to support it is not,” said Joan Hickman, Foundation Chairperson. “For more than 25 years, the Levy Senior Center Foundation has been dedicated to making life better for older adults throughout the Evanston community.”
