Grammy Nominee To Headline Summer Solstice

Benefit to take place June 27 at Unity Church.

Grammy- nominated musician/artist Maurice Oliver and guests will headline the Summer Solstice benefit at Unity Church, 3434 Central St, Evanston on Saturday, June 27. from 6-8 p.m.

On chairs or on blankets, the audience will enjoy an evening of music, video, chanting and dancing tailor-made for the longest day of the year. Early arrivers are invited to come with an instrument and join in a pre-show drum circle. If there is rain, the concert will be held in the church.

Maurice Oliver’s music is as interesting as his artistic journey. A resident of New York, and Amsterdam, he followed his wife, a textile designer, to Evanston several years ago. Maurice was offered a job helping to design Zzounds music store and, one of the first online music retailers.

Since that move, Maurice’s music has taken off. His project Chill Factor-5’s combination of jazz improvisation, world music traditions, and modern technology has earned him a Grammy nomination, and collaborations with artists from around the planet.

His singer lives in Paris and his brass player is Stefan Kaempfer, the grandson of famous composer Bert Kaempfert writer of Swingin’ Safari, and Danke Schoen, his woodwind player, Clive Stevens, is from the UK.

Clive Stevens, and Maurice’s brother, percussionist Steven Oliver, will join Maurice at the concert. The group uses Skype, and other Internet technologies to create, and record.
