EVANSTON, IL — Two people found shot in Wilmette Saturday were wounded when their car was struck by gunfire earlier in Evanston, police said. No one was injured at another shots-fired incident that took place later that evening a few blocks away. Both shootings remain under investigation, but no guns have been found and no one is in custody.

Residents reported gunshots at 4:44 p.m. in the west alley of the 1800 block of Darrow Avenue, according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Ryan Glew. Witnesses told officers that someone in a silver SUV had been shooting at a blue Audi sedan. There were no injuries at the scene, but police found 10 shell casings in the alley.

Wilmette police and firefighters found a blue Audi with two wounded people and several bullet holes around 4:53 p.m. Detectives from Evanston determined it was the same car that had just been shot up in the Darrow Avenue alley, according to Glew. Photos from the scene showed a wheel had come off the car, which he said appeared to have a flat tire after the shooting.

A 24-year-old Skokie woman who had been a passenger in the front seat of the Audi was shot in the chest and taken to Evanston Hospital. She was listed in stable condition and is expected to recover from the shooting, according to police.

The driver, a 33-year-old man, suffered a minor wound to his shoulder. Paramedics treated him at the scene and he was later released. Glew said detectives had identified but not yet spoken to a second passenger who was in the Audi at the time of the shooting.

Wilmette police said the two had been trying to drive themselves to Evanston Hospital when they got lost and the car became disabled.

Evanston police are also investigating another shooting reported later Saturday night. Around 9:03 p.m., police were called to the 2000 block of Jackson Avenue for a report of fighting in the street.

Shots were fired shortly before officers arrived, police said. Witnesses described a small, compact car seen fleeing the area immediately after the shooting. On scene, officers found three shell casings in the street. There were no reported injuries, and detectives did not find anyone who had been shot or any potential shooters, police said.
