Heat Wave: 4th Gun Arrest In 5 Days Announced By Evanston Police

A 32-year-old man allegedly pointed a gun at another driver in a road rage incident before he was arrested with a 6-year-old in his car.

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston police announced their fourth arrest involving illegal guns in a five day period with the Sunday afternoon arrest of a man accused of pulling out a gun and pointing it at a man during a road rage incident. Police were called to the 2200 block of Howard Street around 3:20 p.m. for a report of an aggravated assault with a firearm, according to Cmdr. Ryan Glew. The victim, a 60-year-old Evanston man, gave police a description of the alleged gunman and his car.

Police said they found a man matching the description provided in the 1500 block of Darrow Avenue. They pulled over a blue Chevy Impala driven by Gregory Reese, 32, of the 1800 block of Lunt Avenue in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago.

A 6-year-old boy was also in the car when it was stopped, according to police. During a search, police found a 9 mm handgun. The victim came to the scene and identified Reese as the person who had pulled a gun on him.

Reese, who had a valid firearm owners identification card and was licenced to carry a concealed weapon, was arrested and taken to the station, police said. The child was released to a family member.

Reese reportedly admitted being in a traffic altercation with the Evanston man but denied pointing a gun at him. He faces one count of felony aggravated use of a weapon, one misdemeanor count of aggravated assault and one misdemeanor count of endangering the life of a child.

Police tased and arrested a 40-year-old Evanston man they encountered around 11:13 a.m. in an alley in the 2000 block of Wesley Avenue after receiving "narcotics information." They found a loaded 9 mm with an extended clip in his front seat and charged the man with being an armed habitual criminal in possession of a firearm, among other crimes.

Thursday, June 7

Police arrested a 27-year-old Evanston man at 10:45 p.m. following a traffic stop in the 1800 block of Dodge Avenue. Police said they found a loaded .40 caliber handgun with an extended clip, and the man took off running after being handcuffed. He was charged with various firearm offenses and felony escape.
