Help Name Evanston's New Dog Park

The city is looking for the public's help in coming up with punny, Evanston-inspired names for a new off-leash dog park.

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston is calling upon creative and funny residents to help name its new off-leash dog area at Grey Park.

Anyone can submit their ideas, preferably Evanston-inspired, online. Councilmember Jonathan Nieuwsma and Parks and Recreation staff will pick the top 10 names, then the community will vote for their favorite.

There are a few rules for name submissions, including:

  • Names must be fewer than 35 characters.
  • Keep submissions appropriate. No profanity or inappropriate language.
  • There is no limit to submissions. So if you have many ideas, submit them all!

Submissions will be accepted starting Feb. 10 until Feb 22, and deliberation from the city will last until Feb. 27. The public is added back into the conversation starting March 3 through March 16 to vote for their favorite name.

The contest winner will be announced at the March 23 City Council meeting.
