Homeless Man Stole 20 Bottles Of Liquor, 2 Bicycles: Blotter

Incidents and arrests from the Evanston Police Department blotter from Oct. 20 - Oct. 26.

EVANSTON, IL — The following information comes from the Evanston Police Department as a record of those arrested by police and incidents reported to police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

HOME BURGLARIES/ATTEMPTS

  • Someones stole a bicycle from a garage in the 2300 block of Hastings Avenue between 6 p.m. on Oct. 18 and 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 19 after entering through an unlocked door.
  • A video recording device, jewelry and documents were reported stolen after someone damaged the plexiglass on a door to an apartment between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 in the 900 block of Washington Street.
  • Someone pulled the screen off the front door to an apartment in the 1900 block of Darrow Avenue between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 22.
  • Someone tried to force open the door to an apartment in the 800 block of Brummel Lane around 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 25.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
Someone pointed a gun at another person in a parking lot of a business in the 1700 block of Orrington around 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 20.

FELONY THEFTS

  • Someone stole more than $500 worth of equipment from a hardware store in the 2200 block of Oakton Street after loading it into a U-Haul truck around 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 24.
  • A musical instrument was stolen from a school in the 800 block of Greenleaf Street after it was left unattended between Oct. 2 and Oct. 3. It was reported to police around Oct. 25.
  • Someone stole unattended clothing from a hotel in the 1800 block of Maple Avenue between 4:30 and 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 18.

ARRESTS

Michael A. Ross, 34, of the 600 block of Hull Terrace in Evanston, was arrested around 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 19 in the 1900 block of Greenwood Street and charged with battery.

William K. Stewart, 34, of the 8300 block of Lowell Avenue in Skokie, was arrested around 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 19 in the 2800 block of West Lunt Avenue in Chicago and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

Dominic P. Stevens, 43, of the 2100 block of Greenwood Street in Evanston, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 and charged with domestic battery.

Dennis O. Wallace, 20, of the 100 block of Elmwood Avenue in Evanston, was arrested around 6 p.m. on Oct. 20 in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue and charged with retail theft.

Terry A. Hobbs, 23, of the 7500 block of North Wolcott Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 21 in the 1900 block of Darrow Avenue and charged with domestic battery.

Donald R. Finley, 56, of the 1300 block of Pitner Avenue in Evanston, was arrested around 7 a.m. on Oct. 23 at his home and charged with domestic battery.

Jeremy J. Nicholson, 21, of the 1300 block of McDaniel Avenue in Evanston, was arrested around 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 and charged with possession of cannabis after an officer on patrol noticed him in a vehicle with expired plates and smelled fresh cannabis. Prosecutors said he refused to leave the vehicle, and after officers assisted him out a search turned up two bags of marijuana and one bag containing a pill of suspected hydrocodone.

Micheal T. O'Malley, 27, of the 3400 block of Park Place in Evanston, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 24 in the 1600 block of Benson Avenue and charged with theft of labor or services.

Zachary S. Spear, 27, who listed as homeless, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 22 in the 1500 block of Ridge Avenue and charged with a four counts of theft, including felonies, and trespassing. According to prosecutors, between Oct. 3 and the time of his arrest, Spear stole eight bottles of Belevedere vodka from the Valli Produce at 1910 Dempster Street after riding in on a bicycle. He is also accused of stealing a bicycle from outside Evanston Township High School and selling it, stealing a bicycle from a customer at Panera Bread, 1700 Sherman Ave. and stealing 12 bottles of alcohol from the CVS at 1616 Sherman Ave.

Martha J. Young-Andrews, 62, of the 1700 block of West Madison Street in Evanston, was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 24 in the 1500 block of Dempster Street and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
