Identity Thief Steals Rental Car: Police
A woman rented a car from Hertz in Evanston with a Florida driver's license and never returned it, police say.

EVANSTON, IL — A car rented by an apparent identity thief was stolen for more than a month before it was reported to Evanston police, according to reports.
On March 3, a woman identifying herself as a 36-year-old Florida resident rented a car from the Hertz Rent A Car at 1901 Green Bay Road. She presented all the necessary paperwork and was given a car by Hertz employees.
She was due to return the car, a silver 2016 Nissan Rogue, on March 6. But two days later, she had not returned, and Hertz considered the car stolen, police said.

It wasn't until April 12 that Hertz informed Evanston police of the theft, according to an EPD spokesperson.
Police made contact with the woman whose identity had been used to rent the Nissan. She said never rented such a car from the Evanston Hertz. As a result, police determined the car was probably rented with a fake ID.
