EVANSTON, IL — As school and public health officials continue to refine coronavirus safety guidelines for youth sports, the Illinois High School Association announced this year's varsity football schedule for teams across the state.

Evanston Township High School is set to begin its season on Aug. 28 with a home game against DeKalb High School. Led by coach Mike Burzawa, the Wildkits finished last season with a 3-6 record, missing out on the playoffs for the first time in five years.

Things are expected to look different under Friday night lights this fall, as the Illinois Department of Public Health aims to gradually lift restrictions on contact in time for high school sports at the start of the 2020-21 school year. But it remains up to local school districts to determine how to implement the new safety guidelines.
