Lack of Attachment Caused Evanston Porch Collapse: Official
Building inspector says deck was not attached to house at time of collapse.

A lack of attachment between the deck and the house was the cause of a porch collapse in the 1900 block of Darrow late Monday.
“Pretty much most deck failures occur where the deck meets the house,” said Gary Gerdes, Evanston Building Inspector. “That’s what happened here. There’s a lack of attachment at the house. The deck was not attached properly to the structure.”
Gerdes plans to look up the property’s permit history to make sure the building is up to code, ABC-7-Chicago reports.
