Licensed Firearm Owner Arrested After Waving Gun Out Window: Cops

A 44-year-old Chicago man is accused of brandishing a pistol out the window of his SUV in what police describe as a road rage incident.

EVANSTON, IL — A licensed firearm owner is accused of waving a gun around and threatening people as he drove through Evanston last month in what police described as a road rage incident.

Adelle Spraags, 44, of the first block of West 112th Place, Chicago, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a felony, and misdemeanor aggravated assault with a firearm in connection with an encounter with officers around 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 20, according to Evanston police.

Dispatchers told officers the driver of a gray Jeep Cherokee was brandishing a gun out the window of his SUV as he drove north on Sheridan Road from Chicago into Evanston, according to police. Police found an SUV matching the description provided and pulled it over in an alley east of the 800 block of Foster Street.

Spraags, the driver, told officers he had a handgun in his locked glove compartment, according to police. He had a valid firearm owners identification card, but he did not have a concealed carry license, police said. He was placed under arrest and taken to the Evanston Police Department.

Prosecutors approved a single felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon, and no attorney information was immediately available for Spraags.

Police said he posted the $2,500 cash portion of his bond and was released on bail ahead of his next court appearance March 30. No information about the terms of bond was immediately available from the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
