Man Accused Of Stealing From Hot Dog Joint Caught While Riding Bus

Ronald Pitts is accused of removing money from the cash register at Wiener and Still Champion Wednesday night.

A man who allegedly stole money from a cash register from an Evanston hot dog business was taken into custody after police found him riding a bus.

Ronald Pitts, 43 faces a misdemeanor theft charge after police removed him from a bus in the 2500 block of Dempster Street Monday night, according to the Evanston Review.

The alleged theft took place at Wiener and Still Champion, 802 Dempster St. at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, when Pitts was allegedly seen by an employee reaching over the counter and removing money from the cash register. Police say the employee confronted Pitts, who was identified later as the one seen fleeing and jumping on the bus - which was eventually stopped by police some 17 blocks away.

Pitts also has two active warrants, one for a misdemeanor battery, according to police.
