Man Tries To Rob Mexican Restaurant With Towel

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston detectives are investigating a report of an attempted robbery at a downtown restaurant Thursday night. Police were told a man walked into a Mexican restaurant in the 700 block of Main Street with a towel wrapped around his hand and his face partially covered around 11:23 p.m. The man implied he had a gun and demanded cash from the register, according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan.

Two employees noticed the man and ran into a back room, locking the door behind them, while the empty handed robbery ran south on Custer Avenue, Dugan said.

Nothing was taken and there were no reported injuries. Police continue to investigate the incident.
