Miracles of Hadassah Hospital Fundraiser Scheduled for October 14

Gala at Bryn Mawr Country Club Honors Leaders/Volunteers Esther Yelen Berman and Marlene Kaplan for 50 Years of Service

Hadassah Chicago-North Shore (CNS) holds its annual “Miracles of Hadassah” fundraiser at 6:00 PM, Thursday, October 14th at Bryn Mawr Country Club in Lincolnwood, IL, announced Francine Ephraim, President, Hadassah CNS. The celebratory evening supports the ground-breaking medical research in the robotics and neurology departments at Hadassah Medical Organization and its two world-class hospitals, Ein Kerem and Mount Scopus, in Jerusalem. The gala also honors two local Hadassah leaders / volunteers: Esther Yelen Berman and Marlene Kaplan, each of whom have dedicated their lives to service to the nation’s largest Zionist women’s organization. Hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be served (dietary laws observed). The event will also be livestreamed and those guests will receive a nosh box in advance. Esther Yelen Berman, who was born at Hadassah Hospital in Haifa, Israel, has been a Hadassah Life member for over 40 years. She is National Chair of Hadassah’s Society of Major Donors, Chair of Hadassah Israel and Hadassah CNS Major Gifts Co-Chair. She is also on the board of many other Jewish organizations. She is Sr. Vice President of the Commercial Division of Jameson Real Estate and an industry leader for over 25 years. Esther and her husband Roger Berman, who have been married for 55 years, are part of a four-generation Hadassah family. They are members of Hadassah’s Society of Major Donors and Keepers of the Gate for over 20 years.

Marlene Kaplan has been a member of Hadassah since 1967, the start of a purpose-filled life journey for Marlene and her husband Howard. She has served as President of the Chicago Chapter, National Board, and National Executive Board. Currently, she serves on the National Board, National Honorary Council, and is Hadassah CNS Major Gifts Co-Chair. She is a Guardian Donor and a Silver Keeper of the Gate. Marlene shares this honor with her children and grandchildren.

Francine Ephraim states: "I have been privileged to serve on the Hadassah Chicago-North Shore Board (and the previous Chicago Chapter Board) with both Esther and Marlene. Each of them has served as role models and an inspiration to me as well as countless other Hadassah leaders and donors due to their never-ending dedication and commitment to Hadassah. Together, they exemplify our slogan, ‘The Power of Women Who Do,’ and have raised millions of dollars of donations to heal and save lives and to make Hadassah medical miracles possible. We are thrilled to honor them at Miracles of Hadassah."
