Nevin's Pub Closing For Good

Last call at Tommy Nevin's Pub is set for Nov. 30, according to its CEO.

EVANSTON, IL —Tommy Nevin's Pub is shutting up shop at its 1450 Sherman Ave. location in fewer than 10 days. Co-owner Rohit Sahajpal made the announcement at an Evanston City Council meeting prior to aldermen voting to approve a plan to develop a 273-unit mixed use apartment building atop its location. Nevin's owners have voiced support for the new development from its introduction.

During public comment at the council's Nov. 13 meeting, Sahajpal said revenue has been on the decline at his bar and restaurant for years.

The owners had already been seeking to sell before proposal for the 15-story Albion Residential tower on the site, having listed the property last year. The pub sits on a somewhat contaminated site, which has made finding a buyer more difficult, Sahajpal noted.

Its last day will be Nov. 30, according to CEO Ed Carrella.

Carella previously said Nevin's had no plans to leave Evanston in the near future.

“Our company has a great reputation and tradition in Evanston, and we want to continue that tradition for many years to come,” he told Evanston Now in April.

The owners of the neighboring Prairie Moon restaurant said they intend to open up a new location within the commercial space on the new development's ground floor, although they plan to relocate during construction.

UPDATE: This story was modified to reflect a Nov. 30 closing date after Nevin's CEO informed Patch its owner misstated the date during Monday's council meeting.
