Nurses Sue Evanston Mental Health Clinic
Pair filed a lawsuit against Greenwood Care, Inc. and a supervisor; say they were fired for reporting misconduct.

A pair of nurses claim they were fired for unveiling illegal conduct at Greenwood Care, Inc., a mental health clinic in Evanston, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Saundria Gray and Vanessa Iverson filed a lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court Monday against the facility and Arlene Siap, a senior manager there.
Following Siap’s hiring in September 2012, Gray and Iverson claim supervisors told nurses to alter or completely rewrite progress notes “in order to conceal improper and illegal practices of the nursing home,” the suit claims.

The suit also says that records were tampered to underreport or conceal patient-on-patient violence incidents. Iverson also complained about narcotics tampering and met with higher ups regarding the issue to no avail.
According to the Sun-Times story, “Gray decided to move a step forward and contact the Illinois Department of Health and the Office of the Executive Inspector General on Jan. 22, 2013. The next day, an inspector from IDPH came to the facility and interviewed several staff members about the allegations.”

Both nurses, who are asking for $50,000 in damages and separate punitive amounts, were fired within days of the inspector arriving at the facility.
