Paper and More Paper (Part 2)

Paper and More Paper (Part 2)

Hello from Best Life Organizing. Let’s talk paper, it’s everywhere and can be difficult to get a handle of.  My last blog on paper dealt with mail and kids daily paperwork.  Today the focus is your home office. I work from home and know how difficult this can be to manage.

  1. Think of your desk in stations.  Supplies, calendar, phone, computer/printer and files that are needed daily.  Try to keep these five items near you and limit your items to what you use daily.

  • Paper files on your desk. I keep a vertical file with slots with my most important things.  Everything is labeled and in a file. I can grab what I need quickly. Keep no more than ten files.  For example, I can have five client files and five business files that I reference and bring to meetings.

  • Get a filing cabinet.  Take the time to file and label everything that is necessary to keep.  Trash or shred what is not needed.

  • When paper comes in it needs a home. Read what the paper is and take action.  For example, if it’s a business card you want to keep either file it in a book or update in your computer and then recycle it.

  • A small supply cart.  All extra office supplies on hand and close by is great idea.  Keep it together in a rolling cart or in a bookshelf.  Only keep office supplies in it.  Review it every three months and keep supplies up to date.

  •

Hopefully these small tips keep you motived and in the right direction to an organized, clean and functional home office.
