
The peak of Fall color in Evanston is scheduled for this Friday at 2:30 pm, when the light has a touch of gold in it. The turning of the trees has been delayed by warm weather and the mitigating factor of the lake. The formula for the peak is IC-RLF=P, where IC stands for intensity of color, RLF is the Rate of Leaf Fall, and P is the peak. If the Rate of Leaf Fall is over 10%, that is considered too high to obtain the full flush of color. Right now the Rate of Leaf Fall is at 8 per cent.
A great place to see the lovely colors is along Sheridan road or walking through the Ladd Arboretum, where a variety of tree species provides added interest.
