20-Year-Old Fatally Shot On CTA Platform At Howard Street: Police

Authorities identified a Rogers Park man as the person shot and killed Tuesday afternoon as he stood on the Red Line platform.

CHICAGO — A man was fatally shot at the Howard Street CTA station Tuesday, police said. Dispatchers began to get calls about the shooting shortly before 12:30 p.m., and trains were soon halted as officers investigated.

Police said an unidentified gunman pulled out a handgun and began shooting, striking 20-year-old Macksantin Webb in the chest and neck as he stood on the Red Line platform. The Rogers Park resident was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 1 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The suspected gunman was last seen running north from the station on Paulina Avenue, according to Chicago police. No description of the shooter was immediately available, but police later said detectives were questioning multiple people of interest.

A gun was found at the scene, according to a Chicago police spokesperson. An Evanston police spokesperson said the department's police dog was called to the scene and assisted with the investigation.

Yellow Line service was suspended, while Red and Purple Line trains were standing at Howard Street due to the investigation, according to the Chicago Transit Authority. Alternative service to Skokie Swift riders was offered on the 97 bus. By 1:30 p.m., Red Line service was restored with delays south of Howard Street, while Purple and Yellow Line service north remained disrupted until around 5 p.m., according to the CTA.
