'Rey' Now a Star Wars Monopoly Game Piece Thanks to 8-Year Old
The young girl from Evanston says "Girls Matter," and the game maker responded.

EVANSTON, IL - An 8-year-old girl from Evanston didn’t like that the new Star Wars monopoly game included game pieces with only male characters, and the company behind it has heard her loud and clear.
Originally, the game only included game pieces for Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Finn and Kylo Ren. But Annie Rose, through a tweet from her mother Carrie Goldman, demanded the character Rey be added, according to the Chicago Tribune.
“Without her THERE IS NO FORCE AWAKENS! It awakens in her! And without her, the bad guys would have won! Besides, boys and girls need to see that women can be as strong as men!” Goldman’s tweet read. “Girls matter!”

The #WheresRey hashtag ensued and soon after Hasbro, the company who made the game, announced the main character in the latest Star Wars movie would indeed be added as a game piece.
“We love your passion for Rey and are happy to share that we are including her in the Monopoly: Star Wars game, available later this year,” Hasbro said in a tweet of its own.
