Robber Sprays Mace In Face, Steals Cellphone On Foster: Blotter

Incidents and arrests from the Evanston Police Department blotter from Oct. 27 - Nov. 2

EVANSTON, IL — The following information comes from the Evanston Police Department as a record of those arrested by police and incidents reported to police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole cat food that had been delivered to the common area of an apartment building in the 800 block of Hinman Avenue between 11:40 a.m. on Oct. 25 and 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 26.

SIGN DAMAGE

  • Someone ripped a "Black Lives Matter" yard sign in half in the front yard of a single-family home in the 100 block of Hinman Avenue between Oct. 20 and Oct. 26.
  • A sign was taken from a yard of a single-family home in the 1400 block of Maple Avenue between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 30.

RESIDENTIAL/COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES

  • Cash, jewelry, iPads, stereo equipment and credit cards were reported stolen after a burglar got into an apartment in the 2500 block of Eastwood Avenue through an open bathroom window between 8 a.m. and 8:25 p.m. on Oct. 26.
  • Someone broke into a dry cleaning business in the 2500 block of Gross Point Road between 6 p.m. on Oct. 27 and 6:45 a.m. on Oct. 29 and stole cash.
  • A burglar forced open the window of an apartment in the 700 block of Hinman Avenue between 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 and stole stereo equipment.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 1400 block of Foster Street reported someone slashed tires from two vehicles and put sugar in their gas tanks during the overnight hours of Oct. 28 to Oct. 29. The vehicles were both owned by members of the same family, and police believe one family member was targeted in a domestic conflict.

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY
Around 5:45 p.m. on Nov. 1, two women sprayed a man with mace and robbed him near a community center in the 1600 block of Foster Street. The man had been contacted by one of the woman, who he knew, asking for money. When they met, she asked to use his cellphone. When he pulled it out, the pair sprayed mace in his face, grabbed the phone and ran away.


ARRESTS

Michael L. Johnson, 35, of the 1200 block of Pitner Avenue in Evanston, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 24 in the 1200 block of Fowler Avenue and charged with resisting or obstructing police.

Leroy M. Grant, 57, of the 2400 block of Central Street in Evanston, was arrested around 8:45 p.m. on Oct. 26 and charged with retail theft at a grocery store in the 1200 block of Chicago Avenue.

Patricia A. O'Neill-Cynkar, 66, of the 2200 block of Sherman Avenue in Evanston, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. on Oct. 27 in the 1000 block of Noyes Street and charged with DUI.

Andre J. Peart, 25, of the 100 block of Clyde Avenue in Evanston, was arrested around 8:17 p.m. on Oct. 28 and charged with manufacture or delivery of cannabis.

Iris M. Sanchez, 31, of the 2200 block of Emerson Street in Evanston, was arrested around 10 p.m. on Oct. 29 in the 1900 block of Brown Avenue and charged with criminal damage to property.

Justin J. Dunlap-Edwards, 25, of the 9900 block of Holly Lane in Des Plaines, was arrested around 8 p.m. on Oct. 30 in the 10000 block of Holly Lane in Des Plaines and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver. No further information was immediately available on the connection to Evanston.

Desmen D. Williams, 26, of the 1900 block of West Touhy Avenue in Chicago, was arrested 10:20 p.m. on Oct. 30 at the Evanston Police Department and charged with fleeing or eluding police.

Teawonna R. Smith, 20, of the 3100 block of Norwood Court in Streamwood, was arrested around 8 a.m. on Oct. 31 at the Evanston Police Department and charged with reckless conduct.

Tracy Williams, 43, of the 1500 block of Dodge Avenue in Evanston, was arrested around 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the 1300 block of Ashland Avenue and charged with misdemeanor aggravated assault.

Randy R. Pryor, 24, of the 2300 block of Emerson Street in Evanston, was arrested around 8:15 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the 2300 block of Emerson Street and charged with domestic battery.

Omar R. al-Adili, 24, of the 1300 block of McDaniel Avenue in Evanston, was arrested around 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 31 in the 1700 block of Emerson Street and charged with battery.

Ian M. Taylor, 29, of the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue in Evanston, was arrested around 8:45 p.m. on Nov. 1 and charged with retail theft at the Target store in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue.
