'Safe Home' Flyer May Be Scam: Police
Several Evanston homes have received advertisements to have someone paint their address on the curb for $20. Don't fall for it, police say.

EVANSTON, IL - The 'Operation Safe Home' flyer that has been distributed to homes in Evanston recently may be anything but safe.
The Evanston Police Department is warning city residents the recent door-to-door campaign may be a scam.
The flyers are supposedly from an organization that claims to paint home addresses on the curb in exchange for $20, which will be collected by a service representative at a later date.

On the flyer, it says the address numbers will be painted in "beautiful plastic-metal and bulletproof glass."
But police say the operation is not a city of Evanston sponsored activity and officials have been "unable to locate or authenticate the source of the flyer."
