Shooting Suspect Released When Victim Refuses To Cooperate

A Skokie man was initially identified by the victim, who police say won't cooperate any longer.

A 21-year-old Skokie man has been released from police custody in connection with a June 24 incident in which an Evanston man was shot in the neck.

A Monday police report indicates that although the victim - a 32-year-old Evanston man - was initially cooperative with investigators, he “declined to participate in the investigation any further” once the suspect was in custody at the Evanston Police Department.

The incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. in the city’s 1800 block of Leland Avenue. According to the victim, a gold colored vehicle pulled up next to his as a passenger fired two gunshots after asking for the victim’s name.

The victim was treated and released from Evanston Hospital.

“The victim was initially cooperative with investigators and made a positive identification of the offender who shot him,” police said. “Without the cooperation of the victim, the police department had to release the offender without any charges.”
