The train operator put out the Wednesday afternoon blaze near the South Boulevard station in Evanston.

EVANSTON, IL - A small fire on the CTA’s Purple Line tracks near the South Boulevard station in Evanston was put out quickly by the train operator Wednesday afternoon.
The fire, that started around 1:15 p.m. on the southbound tracks, resulted in a 10-to-12 minute delay according to the Evanston Review.
A spokesperson for the CTA said the cause was the “third rail chair,” a device used the prop up the electrified third rail.
