Some Aldermen Object to Huge Raise

Evanston Council members hesitant to up their pay be nearly 25 percent.

EVANSTON, IL - Plans for members of the Evanston City Council to receive a 23.1 percent raise after the 2017 election have stalled, at least temporarily, as two aldermen have voiced opposition to the measure.

3rd Ward Ald. Melissa Wynne said during Monday night’s City Council meeting that a raise more in line with increases seen by city employees would be “more equitable” and that the amount proposed should be avoided based on the uncertainty regarding the state of Illinois budget and how much the city will eventually see from that, according to Evanston Now.

9th Ward Ald. Brian Miller agreed, citing the city’s many other priorities.
