'Targeted Attack': Evanston Shooting Leaves Teen Dead, 4 Wounded
"This kind of event is unacceptable to every person in this community," Mayor Daniel Biss said of Sunday's mass shooting of five teenagers.

EVANSTON, IL — The five teenagers shot Sunday in Evanston, who ranged from 14 to 18, were acquainted with one another before being targeted by gunfire, police said.
The mass shooting left 17-year-old Karl Dennison dead in the 1900 block of Green Bay Road shortly after 7:15 p.m.
The other four gunshot victims — two male and two female — were rushed to hospital, where a 14-year-old remained in critical condition Monday, according to Evanston police spokespeople.

Mayor Daniel Biss offered his condolences to the victims, their families, loved ones and the community.
"Today, Evanston's heart is broken. Any act of violence that occurs here tears at the fabric of our community, but the extraordinary youth of the victims of last night's tragedy I think is tugging at the consciousness of all of us today," Biss said at a news conference Monday.
Biss pledged to ensure justice for those responsible for the shooting, to support those harmed and to strengthen the city's violence prevention initiatives.
"This kind of event is unacceptable to every person in this community and is deeply, deeply, deeply harmful to every person in this community," the mayor said. "And it simply cannot be something that we accept as a sad but inevitable course of ordinary life."
Police said the motive for the shooting remains under investigation by detectives from Evanston police and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force.
"No suspects are in custody, and there is offender information to release at this time," said Cmdr. Ryan Glew. "We will not be releasing any video or photos at this time."
Glew and Carter asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the Evanston Police Department.
