Taser Can't Take Down CVS Wallet Thief: Cops
It took more than a Taser for police to arrest Elmo Hatfield, accused of trying to steal a woman's wallet.

Evanston, IL - A foot pursuit on Saturday ended with the arrest of an Evanston man police say attempted to steal a woman’s wallet at the CVS on Central Street.
Elmo S. Hatfield, of the 2100 block of Dewey was charged with theft, aggravated assault, resisting a peace officer and disobedience to police in a public place after he was eventually taken into custody following a chase that included Hatfield recovering from a taser deployment, cops say.
Hatfield is accused of removing a wallet from a 43-year-old Glenview woman’s purse as it was in her shopping cart while at CVS. When the woman confronted him, he fled on foot.

Police arrived and found Hatfield nearby in the 2300 block of Lawndale Avenue, where the foot pursuit took place through several yards in the neighborhood.
During the pursuit, cops say Hatfield slammed a gate on one officer’s right arm and pushed him in the chest.
The officer responded by deploying the Taser, which had an immediate effect, but did not stop the chase.

Hatfield was eventually taken into custody near Central Park Avenue.
