Teen Gang Member Charged in Lake Street Standoff

The 16-year-old boy faces five felonies following Wednesday's barricade situation.

A 16-year-old Evanston boy faces five felonies, including aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a street gang member, in connection to Wednesday’s incident in which two people barricaded themselves inside a Lake Street home following a shots fired incident.

The juvenile is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm by street gang member, unlawful possession of a firearm under 18 years of age, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and reckless conduct, according to the Evanston Review.

The man arrested in the incident has not been charged yet.

Officers patrolling the area at 4:20 p.m. heard the gunshots come from Lake Street and Darrow Avenue and could smell gunfire as they exited their vehicle to investigate. Two people fled the scene and entered a building in the 1800 block of Lake Street.

Helicopters surrounded the area during the barricade situation. Police had the scene cleared in two hours.
