EVANSTON, IL — Thanksgiving represents a time to gather with family and friends to enjoy a tasty feast and remember everything for which we are grateful. It's also among the busiest travel days of the year, the start of the holiday shopping season and, for some, can present a smorgasbord of stress.

Most families will have the chance to relax after their Thanksgiving meal, perhaps tuning into to some football or taking a post-meal nap. But many Americans, especially for those employed by retailers looking to get a jump on Black Friday sales, must nevertheless work on the holiday.

In Evanston, many offices will have adjusted hours for the the Thanksgiving holiday. Some, including government buildings and schools, will remain closed on Black Friday. Some businesses have special opening and closing hours during the holiday week. Here's a list of public services, institutions, retailers and restaurant hours for Thanksgiving 2018.
