Toddler Kicked At Walgreens, Man In Wheelchair Pushed At Bar: Evanston Crime

EVANSTON, IL — Over the past weekend in Evanston, one man was arrested for allegedly pushing over a person in a wheelchair, a woman was been charged with kicking a toddler in a Walgreens and a woman discovered several bullets were fired through her bedroom window.
AGGRAVATED BATTERY (TO TODDLER)
Patricia J. Miller, 65, of the 1100 block of Emerson, was arrested May 12 after an investigation into an incident that occurred on the afternoon of May 10 inside the Walgreens on the 2100 block of Green Bay Road, police said.

Around 1:20 p.m., Miller was allegedly waiting in line when she kicked a 3-year-old Evanston boy in the back. As the child began crying, his 32-year-old caretaker asked what had happened and was told that "the lady behind" him had kicked him, according to police reports.
"No," Miller allegedly responded when confronted by the child's caretaker, "I didn't kick your brat kid." Later, she told police that the boy had "fallen backwards" on her leg, police reports said.

Evanston police said they found a medium sized bruise on the child's back and pulled the Walgreens security tapes of the incident.
As a result of speaking to witnesses and watching the tape, police charged Miller with aggravated battery on the afternoon of May 12.
AGGRAVATED BATTERY (TO MAN IN WHEELCHAIR)
Luis A. Cotto, 28, of the 2500 block of Oak Street in Franklin Park, was arrested May 13 at 2:20 a.m. following a call of a disturbance at Tommy Nevins on Sherman Avenue.
Police responded and soon located the victim, a 54-year-old wheelchair-bound Evanston man who had been pushed over. He was apparently both injured and intoxicated, according to police reports.
Evanston police conducted a brief investigation and learned witnesses had seen the victim get into a verbal argument with a man later identified as Cotto.
Cotto allegedly pushed the man in the wheelchair to the group and left northbound on foot.
Police located him a short time later in the area of Grove and Sherman and arrested him for aggravated battery.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY (SHOTS FIRED)
Around 11:38 p.m. on Saturday, May 13 someone fired several shots into a home on the 1300 block of Hartrey Avenue, police said.
Shell casings were recovered in the rear of the single-family home with multiple bullet holes were found in the bedroom of a 51-year-old Evanston woman, including one lodged in her dresser, according to police reports.
The investigation into the shooting is continuing. It does not currently appear to have been a random act, according to Evanston police Cmndr. Joseph Dugan.
