Davin Allen lives in Skokie but he chose Evanston's lakefront when he decided to organize March the Front for Black Lives Matter, which happens tomorrow at noon, beginning at Clark Street Beach.

"For some time my mom lived in Evanston and over the years I’ve enjoyed the downtown Evanston area," Davin says. "I chose Evanston's lakefront because I saw how the community rallied together, and was impressed with Evanston’s commitment to change. I also wanted a highly trafficked area to increase awareness for the continued injustices that have occurred since George Floyd’s death."

Davin, a recent first-generation college graduate of North Central College in Naperville, has lived in Skokie for the last 18 years and attended Niles North High School.

"Over the last two years at North Central I was a Resident Assistant in a first-year building," Davin says. "This sparked my passion to work with incoming first-year students from all over. I dedicated myself to learning and growing as a resident assistant, and I’m now pursuing my masters in student involvement at North Central College as a graduate assistant for first-generation students."

Davin says he strongly believes that no matter how big or small an interaction, you can make an impact on others' lives.

"That is why I want to do whatever I can with the skills I have to make a difference in the world," he says.
