Traffic Delays On Sheridan Road In Evanston Expected Friday

A damaged light post is being repaired until 2 p.m. and drivers have been encouraged to avoid the area.

EVANSTON, IL — Traffic is being reduced to one lane in both directions on Sheridan Road in Evanston Friday morning and early afternoon as crews work to repair damage caused by a truck overnight. The closure is in effect until about 2 p.m. from Haven Street to Garrett Place, according to the city manager's office.

Around 10 p.m. on Thursday, a truck delivering windows to Northwestern University had a load shift, causing it to knock over a light post on the west side of Sheridan at the Noyes Street intersection. Evanston police said a 25-year old Chicago man was cited for driving on a canceled commercial license and damage to city property for the incident.

The truck was unable to move until its load is readjusted, and crews have brought a crane to the scene to fix the issue and clean up the area. (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest news for Evanston — or your community. And iPhone users: Check out Patch's new app.)
