73-Year-Old Man Fatally Struck By Vehicle Crossing Kedzie Avenue

Evergreen Park police said the man was coming home from the store. The crash remains under investigation. The driver has not been charged.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — A 73-year-old man walking home from the store early Sunday evening was fatally struck by a vehicle as he was crossing the street in Evergreen Park.

At 6:46 p.m., police responded to the 9700 block of South Kedzie Avenue for a vehicle vs. pedestrian traffic crash. Officers learned that the scene that the vehicle, traveling southbound on Kedzie, struck the pedestrian crossing the street.

The pedestrian was transported to Advocate Aurora Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead. He was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner as Robert B. Reed, who lived in the area.

The driver remained on the scene. The crash is being investigated by the Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team. No charges or citations have been issued to the driver pending the investigation.
