Alleged Booze Thief Goes Back for Seconds: Prosecutor

Prosecutors said man took $615 worth of liquor from Jewel on two different days.

Merrionette Park, IL -- Merrionette Park police arrested a man when employees recognized him as the same shoplifter who had been in the supermarket two days before allegedly stealing liquor, prosecutors said.

Michael O’Donnell, 35, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on two counts of felony retail theft.

According to the charges, employees at Jewel-Osco, 3243 W. 115th St., Merrionette Park noticed a large amount of liquor missing from the inventory on May 1.

After reviewing store surveillance video, the prosecutor said that a man, later identified as O’Donnell, and a white female came into the store and stole about $500 worth of alcohol.

Around 2:40 p.m. May 4, store employees recognized O’Donnell when he went back to the store. He proceeded to take $115 worth of liquor, but was confronted in the parking lot with the stolen booze, the prosecutor said.

Judge Felice set bail at $30,000 for each offense. O’Donnell’s next court hearing is May 25 in Bridgeivew.
