Alleged Dope Dealer Sells Heroin 4 Times To Undercover Evergreen Park Cop: Prosecutor

Prosecutor said Chicago man sold heroin to undercover Evergreen Park cop four times near Scottsdale Park.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- A Chicago man was arrested after he sold heroin four times to an undercover Evergreen Park cop, prosecutors said. Garry Cooper, 25, appeared before Cook County Judge Donald Havis on felony charges of manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance. The drug sales all allegedly occurred near a park.

The prosecutor said that on Aug. 18, the Evergreen Park police officer called Cooper’s cell phone as part of an ongoing undercover investigation. The officer agreed to purchase 2.28 grams of smack for $60. Cooper allegedly arranged to meet the undercover cop near Scottsdale Park on 83rd Street in Chicago. In the 8300 block of South Kolin Avenue, the cop met Cooper where the alleged transaction went down 226 feet away from the park.

The morning of Aug. 31, the same officer contacted Cooper on his cell phone, the prosecutor said. Cooper again agreed to met the officer near Scottsdale Park. According to Evergreen Park police, the officer arrived and exchanged $40 for 1.4 grams of heroin 168 feet from the park. The substance field tested positive for heroin.

Two more heroin deals also took place on Aug. 25 and Aug. 22. Both occurred less than several hundred feet from Scottsdale Park, the prosecutor said. In one of the deals, the undercover cop said that Cooper showed up with another man driving a Ford. Cooper allegedly took the money and the other individual handed the officer the drugs. With the exception of the Aug. 25 deal, the prosecutor said that Cooper showed up driving a silver car.

The judge set bail at $25,000 for each charge, totaling $100,000. Cooper’s next court date is Oct. 2 in Bridgeview.
