EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- The Evergreen Park Public Library is preparing to host local author, Don Parker PhD, this Thursday, May 16, starting at 6:30 p.m. Parker will be signing copies of his new book, “Building Bridges: Engaging Students At-Risk Through the Power of Relationships.”

Parker’s book features evidenced-based strategies to create positive relationships with students at risk to help them succeed in school and life. Based on his own experience teaching and leading students at risk, author Parker explains how zero-tolerance policies are not effective and, instead, how building trusting teacher-student relationships improve students’ behavior and lead to academic achievement.

Parker is the principal of Posen Intermediate School in the Posen-Robbins School District 143 ½. He previously served as principal in Dolton at Lincoln Avenue School where he improved the culture, implemented a resilience program, managed the implementation of restorative justice, and increased attendance and student achievement. Parker’s passionate pursuit to invest in youth began back in 1997 in an inner-city CPS classroom teaching health and physical education.
