Carson's Shoplifter Hits Store Three Times for Designer Clothing: Prosecutor

Ex-convict is accused of running out of store with hundreds of dollars of designer clothing in three separate incidents, prosecutor said.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- A Chicago man was arrested after he went to the same department store on three separate occasions and made off with thousands of dollars worth of brand name clothing, prosecutors said Monday in court.

Eric Jones, 48, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on three felony counts of retail theft. According to the charges, Jones visited the Evergreen Plaza Carson’s store at 9700 S. Western Ave. on Nov. 6, Nov. 10, and Nov. 13.

The prosecutor said on Nov. 6, Jones grabbed 15 women’s blouses near the front of the store and ran out. The blouses were valued at $2,325.

Jones went allegedly went back to the store on Nov. 10, where he selected five Michael Kors shirts and one pair of pants before walking out the store without paying with an estimated value of $464.

On Nov. 13, Jones is alleged to have entered the store and going to the men’ department. There, he stuffed 14 pairs of jeans valued at $464 into a black plastic bag and left the store the prosecutor said.

Jones was identified in a photo array. The prosecutor said Jones has nine felony arrests, two misdemeanors and three failures to appear.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Jones currently takes medication for schizophrenia.

Bail was set at $50,000 for each count, totaling $150,000. Jones’ next court appearance is Dec. 5 in Bridgeview.
