EVERGREEN PARK, IL — A Chicago Public Schools teacher was arrested after police said he tried to solicit a child on social media earlier this month. Robin Spann, 32, appeared before Cook County Judge Terry Gallagher on felony charges of indecent solicitation of a child and grooming. The prosecutor said that Spann is a teacher at Wells Community Academy High School.

Between April 2 and April 13, Spann began communicating with a 15-year-old girl over on a social media app, using the name “anonymous,” the prosecutor said. The underage girl was actually an Evergreen Park police officer.

While corresponding with the "girl," Spann asked her to text him a picture of her breasts, the prosecutor said. He reportedly explained that he was a “31-year-old teacher” and asked to meet her on multiple occasions. Police said Spann also texted the undercover police officer pictures of his erect penis.

Investigators said they were able to link the IP address to Spann’s devices. Police say he admitted to sending pictures of his genitalia to who he thought was a 15-year-old girl.

Spann’s attorney told the judge that his client is originally from Ohio and was teaching at the time of his arrest. He has no prior criminal history.

The high school's website lists Spann as a science teacher. Administrators would not comment on the allegations, or if they were aware of Spann’s arrest.

Bail was set at $10,000. Should Spann bond out, he is to remain on electronic monitoring through the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. Spann is also to stay away from children while his case is pending. He’s due back in court May 21 in Bridgeview.
