D124 Board Holds Second Meeting To Reconsider Principal Offer
Dist. 124 board will hold a special meeting to allow middle school principal to address misconduct allegations from former school district.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- The Evergreen Park Elementary School District 124 school board will be holding a second special board meeting this Thursday, June 14, to possibly reconsider an offer made to a former North Shore administrator to be the principal of the middle school. The meeting will be held at the D124 Administrative Office, 2929 W. 87th St., Evergreen Park, starting at 6 p.m.
Dr. Matthew Eriksen was named principal of Central Middle School last month. Allegations of professional misconduct, mostly from teachers at his former school in Highland Park, have since emerged. A redacted letter obtained by a freedom of information act request, showed that Eriksen had been banned from contact with staff and school property in North Shore School Dist. 112. He was said to be on “special assignment” and ride out his contract which expires June 30.
The D124 board members put off making a decision on whether to rescind their offer to Eriksen, stating they needed to follow “due process safeguards” by allowing Eriksen to address the mostly anonymous allegations from his former district. During a special meeting on May 30, several parents and teachers urged the board to withdraw the offer to make Eriksen principal of Central Middle School.
