When and how did your business get started?
I have been licensed with the State of Illinois since June of 2010, but I just got to open on Nov. 4, 2013.
The commercial building was built in 1922 and my parents have owned it since 1969. (I love the building - I grew up in there.) Sadly, I had to fight to open my business because, long story short, the village wanted to knock the building down so the Oberweis Dairy strip mall could have additional parking, BUT the building was never for sale. April 1st, 2013 - I hung large neon green signs in the windows for help and to let people know the building was deliberately being kept vacant. Only by the Grace of God my signs worked and I was finally allowed to open.
What is your business best known for?
So far my Hair Salon is known for it's extreme cleanliness, great customer service and that we are a gossip FREE environment. We don't have a television because I believe relaxing during "Beauty" services is very important. We all need to relax, rest our minds and forget about the telephones and televisions for a short while. We are an upscale Salon because of our products - with a cozy neighborhood atmosphere.
Why did you choose the town you did to open your business?
I was born and raised in Evergreen Park. I have lived other places, but in my heart EP will always be my home! I have great memories of all the fun we had growing-up and to open a Hair Salon in my hometown is a total dream come true.
What's something interesting about your business your customers might not know?
My parents bought the "Bob's Farm Store" business in 1964 (I was four years old) and in 1969 my parents bought the building (I was nine years old). I played and grew up in this building for 49 years and every morning I unlock the front door for business - it's a thrill for me!
Also, people don't realize that I built everything myself. (Lack of money because it was vacant so long) - I laid the tile floor, hung the mirrors, built the front desk and seating benches. The chairs, coffee table and cabinet I found in the garbage and I refurbished them.
Does your business offer a special deals card or program?
We have Grand Opening "Specials": Cut, Blow & Curl = $30 dollars. Men's Haircut = $10 dollars, and shampoo and conditioner is included. Men and boys - we offer loyalty cards. Five (5) haircuts and the sixth (6) cut is FREE. Women - sixth (6) salon visit is 10 percent off a service or FREE eyebrow waxing.
