EP Office of Citizens' Services Come Out Of The Gate Running

A flurry of activities for seniors in January

It didn’t take long for the Office of Citizens’ Services to jump into action in 2025!

The OCS offers a fine array of programs to serve the senior community of Evergreen Park. Located in the Maher Community Center at 3450 W. 97th Street, the department just turned 50 this past September.

The bubbles from the New Year’s Eve champagne hadn’t even finished popping when the OCS kicked off its first major gathering of the year. . .the Grandparents/Grandkids Ice Cream Social on January 2.

This came at the right time, smack dab before younger students return to school after the holidays. OCS staffers served lots of ice cream and cookies. Board games and coloring books/crayons were in plentiful supply. A full room of EP grandparents and their grandchildren had a fun and happy afternoon.

Then, coming on Wednesday, February 5, comes the 2025 return of the “The Evergreens”.
This is a group of local seniors who get together once a month to have refreshments, chat, get up-to-date, and take part in an activity. This month, we will be playing “Left-Right-Center”. Bring a sack lunch and $3 to play. Coffee and tea will be provided. We start at Noon at the Community Center, so please join us!

The OCS also makes the cozy Community Center library available to seniors for weekly movies. Presented on a fifty-two inch SmartTV and offering plush recliner chairs, the Movie Program takes place every Monday and Tuesday, with showtimes at 10:00am and 1:00pm (no movies on weeks where there is a Monday holiday). A movie schedule is available at the counter of the OCS office, or online.

Are you looking to walk some laps? A free Walking Group has started at the Community Center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7am-8am. Great indoor walking during the winter months. Walk at your own pace! This is a joint effort of the OCS and the Recreation Department.
