EP Youth Department Debuts "Creative Hour"
More Opportunities Available for EP Youths
With all the things that the Youth Department has going this Autumn….a Haunted Hayride, Movie Night, Open Basketball, Open Volleyball, Babysitting Classes and more. . .there is always a desire to reach out to more youths with diverse interests.
“This is why we have developed a program called “Creative Hour”, announced Youth Director Pyeisha Allen. “We have kids who have a variety of interests, and this program will reach those who are richly creative, whether they know it or not!”
Creative Hour debuts on Thursday, October 17 from 4:30pm – 5:30pm in Room N110 of the Community Center.
“Every month, we hope to offer a hands-on class on different creative subjects, whether it’s art, music, dance, writing. Anything,” Ms. Pyeisha continued.
The first class is a craft, led by EP Youth Department staffer Allianna Garcia, who will be showing interested individuals how to make a “Day of the Dead” mask.
The Day of the Dead is a festive multi-day holiday that is traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2, largely observed in Mexico, which involves family and friends gathering to pay respects and to remember friends and family members who have passed away.
“We invite you to join us to show your appreciation for a loved one by making this bright and colorful mask. Yes, it is an educational opportunity, but it’s a lot of fun, as well.” Ms. Pyeisha commented.
A low $5 cost includes a snack and all materials used in the class. Students in Grades 5 to 12 are asked to register on or before Tuesday, October 15 by calling the department at (708) 229-3377.
“We want to cover all creative arts,” she continued. “If there is any adult family member who would like to host a Creative Hour, please let us know. We want to touch on something so that our kids can explore their hidden talents.”
The Youth Department is located in the Community Center, 3450 W. 97th Street, with Youth Center hours from 3pm-6pm Monday through Friday. You can reach Ms. Pyeisha anytime by phone during the Community Center’s normal business hours.
The Youth Department has a Facebook page….”Evergreen Park Youth Department”…as well as an Instagram page, “epyouthdept”, both of which are updated constantly to keep you “in the know”.
