Evergreen Park Man Chases, Stabs Ex-Girlfriend In Street: Cops

Witnesses told police they saw the man chasing the woman and her friend's dog, prosecutors said.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- An Evergreen Park man was arrested after he chased his ex-girlfriend through the streets and stabbed her in front of numerous witnesses, prosecutors said. Ervin Schlosser, 52, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on various felony charges of domestic and aggravated battery with use of a deadly weapon.

The prosecutor said the ex-girlfriend had originally dated Schlosser’s son. When the son died, the woman started going out with Schlosser. The woman ended the relationship with Schlosser, and since then, the prosecutor said that Schlosser has badgered her with text messages and gone looking for her at various hangouts. Schlosser and the woman are both said to be periodically homeless.

On Oct. 21, the woman was staying with a new friend, and was walking her new friend’s dog, when she encountered Schlosser in the 9300 block of South Pulaski Road, across the street from Jewel-Osco. Schlosser told her that it was one-year anniversary of his son’s death and that she needed to spend the day with him, the prosecutor said.

Schlosser allegedly stabbed the woman in the lower back. Blood was running down her legs as the dog pulled her away from the scene. Witnesses in the Jewel-Osco parking lot told police they saw a man, later identified as Schlosser, chasing the woman across Pulaski. The prosecutor said that Schlosser held the blade of the knife up his sleeve and began hitting the woman about the face, causing severe lacerations.

Witnesses in the parking lot converged on Schlosser, the prosecutor said. The woman ran to another friend’s house nearby, who called 911. Another witness in the Jewel-Osco parking lot also called police. Schlosser was interviewed by Evergreen Park police on Oct. 25, when he was charged with aggravated battery. The woman was treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The prosecutor said that Schlosser has seven prior arrests for domestic battery. He has six prior felonies for possession of a controlled substance and burglary.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Schlosser was the father of seven and was employed up until last year as a cab driver.

“It concerns this court that he poses a serious threat to the victim,” Felice said.

The judge ordered Schlosser to be held without bail. He’s up for a bond review in seven days. Schlosser’s next court date on the criminal charge is Nov. 21 in Bridgeview.
