Evergreen Park Swimmer Ryan Murphy Grabs Second Gold in Rio

Ryan Murphy clocks 200-meter backstroke event in 1:53.62.

Swimmer Ryan Murphy, who was born in Palos Heights and grew up in Evergreen Park, grabbed his second gold medal in the Rio games on Thursday..Murphy clocked 1:53.62 in the 200-meter backstroke, beating the silver medalist by a full second.

It was the 21-year-old backstroke specialist’s second gold in the 2016 Summer Games. Earlier this week Murphy set an Olympic record finishing the 100-meter backstroke in 51.97 seconds.

Murphy will go for the gold a third time in Saturday’s medley relay.
