Evergreen Park Youth Department Drives For School Supplies!

Successful school supply drive brings in the tools the students need for a successful school year.

The Evergreen Park Youth Department recently teamed up with the Evergreen Park Public Library and the Village Hall to help students prepare for a successful school year.

The School Supply Drive ran from July 15 to August 15, with the three donation drop-off locations mentioned.

“Our residents responded with their usual compassion and generosity,” said Ms. Pyeisha Allen, Director of the Evergreen Park Youth Department. “We had asked for the basics, things like backpacks, pencils and pens, crayons and markers, folders and binders and paper, and the like,” she continued.

“We hadn’t even had a chance to blink and the donations were appearing in the boxes.”

All boxes were filled and dropped off at the School District Building last week and the supplies will find their way into the hands of students in need.

“I want to thank all residents who took the time to go out and buy these supplies and brought them here,” Ms. Pyeisha said. “We have a great community. We also want to thank Jake Sliter for all the heavy lifting! Jake is part of the Community Center staff and helped make the delivery very easy for us. Thank you, too, to the custodian at the district office for his help.”

The Youth Department is located in the Community Center, 3450 W. 97th Street. The Youth Center is open daily to students in grades 5-12. In addition to hosting a game room and a light refreshment counter, the Department is always at work developing programs and classes for the kids in the Community. A successful Youth Garden has been a hit for four years now. Sewing Classes, Babysitting Classes and Art Classes are continuously on the Youth Department schedule.

“We’re easy to find,” said Ms. Pyeisha. “We are on Instagram at “epyouthdept”, we have a Facebook page, “Evergreen Park Youth Department” and all of our programs can be found on the Village website. More importantly, you can always visit us, or give us a call at 708-229-3377.”
